Pressure and Stress

All of us worry or feel anxious at some time in our lives - this is quite normal! It is a natural reaction to the problems life throws at you.

In fact, we all need some degree of pressure - this is valuable and is called positive stress. Without it life would be extremely boring which itself could lead to negative stress.

We often use the word STRESS when we actually mean PRESSURE!

PRESSURE and STRESS are not the same;

1: PRESSURE

Pressure can be PHYSICAL - heavy strenuous work, falling ill!

Pressure can be PSYCHOLOGICAL - demands on your time, dealing with difficult people, too much work or even too little work.

Some of the demands placed on you may be pleasant, others not quite so good!

1: STRESS

The word STRESS comes from the Latin verb "stringere" - which means to draw tight.

STRESS is your response to a level of PRESSURE that is inappropriate for you.

STRESS is your response to the PRESSURE not the PRESSURE itself!

We all have our own level of PRESSURE that is right for us.

When this is too high or too low the result can be -

STRESS!
